Klein Global Opportunities (GO), formerly known as Study Away, provides opportunities in the U.S. and internationally for all students through academic and practical experience. We aim to assist students in becoming influential leaders and empowered global citizens. Programs range from ten days to semester long. Klein GO programs are designed to not only enhance a student’s marketability in the workplace, but to also cultivate their global perspective in a growing multicultural environment. Through guidance and expertise, we encourage our community to propose and participate in international and domestic experiential learning.

What Klein GO Program did you participate in?
Global Internship Program in Barcelona, Spain

Why did you choose to study away in the first place?
With a Spanish minor and a serious case of the travel bug, I couldn’t wait to study away and being able to combine that experience with a professional internship was a no-brainer for me.

How has studying abroad shaped you professionally and personally?
Professionally, I was able to work with some really brilliant minds, make amazing connections, learn a ton and get hands-on experience. Personally, I was able to experience other cultures, become more independent and make lifelong friends during my time in Barcelona. The experience as a whole really helped me find myself and my passions.

Tell us about your opportunities post-Klein GO program.                                                  Aside from all of the connections I’ve made at Temple alone, I’ve made connections with colleagues from around the world and this ultimately led to me being offered a part-time remote position with the company I interned for, TravelPerk. Now that graduation is coming up and I’ve been on board with the company since June of 2017, we’re exploring full-time employment opportunities.

Where will you be going?                                                                                                                      Back to Barcelona, Spain (yay)!

How did you get there?                                                                                                                         Luckily, my coworkers across the ocean enjoyed having me on the team as much as I loved being a part of it so after many conversations, the VP of Marketing at TravelPerk began exploring the option of relocating me post-graduation and as long as we’ll be able to handle all of the logistics of relocation and obtaining a visa, I’m planning to move back to Barcelona this summer.

What will you be doing?                                                                                                                          The types of responsibilities we’re hoping I’ll be able to help TravelPerk with right now is a combination of community management, including social media and branding initiatives and event/field marketing management in which I’ll help plan and execute worldwide events for our sales team and have the opportunity to travel with them!

Where do you hope to take your career/passions in the future?
I think the opportunity to work in such a fast-paced, high growth company is going to be invaluable for my career and getting to combine that with my passions for travel and be able to bring my creativity into my work is going to be such an amazing experience that I think will open a lot of doors for me in the future. Not only is it going to be very fulfilling, but also just amazing experience to add to my resume.

What was the most valuable takeaway from participating in the Global Internship Program in Barcelona?
I think the most valuable aspect of my GIP in Barcelona was really the overall atmosphere of my internship placement. I learned a ton, had so much fun, made friends out of colleagues and was able to meet people from all corners of the world. It really helped shape me not only professionally but also personally.

What advice do you have for current and/or prospective Klein GO participants?
My biggest advice would be to first of all, enjoy the experience and make the most out of your time while you’re away, immersing yourself in another culture is so rewarding. I would also recommend that you take your internship as seriously as you would here in the states. It might seem like a stretch, since you’re working so far away from home, but you really never know where it will take you and maybe you’ll get the opportunity of creating something more permanent like I have!
